PORT ROYAL
The Spanish (second goverment and original invaders of the Islands) called Port Royal Santiago when they had taken it from the Taino. Later it became a colony of the English crown, in The British West Indies.
It was home at that time to Dutch, Danish and British privateers, the british government maintained indirect harrassment of Spanish interests by these men. They not only issued letters of Marque, they were so enthusiastic in some cases they paid privateers cash to pursue Spanish ships.
HOME PORT
It was vital to have a home port to return to for many reasons, unloading hot goods for one. Also repairs and fresh supplies were regular requirements for a sea like the Caribbean.

VISITING PORT ROYAL

Ahar, tis good to find you with me still at one of my favourite ports. Here I furnishes me ship with anything I couldn't plunder on the high seas, and for fun there's always the poetry. Where? Why in the Blue Angel poets dive of course.

Port Royal

All pirates like Port Royal rum
It makes backache and toothache quite numb,
We also like fights,
With each other at night,
Over haikus and sonnets how dumb?
==========

I have some loot here, gemstones n such as well as a letter  of marque giving us privateer status. The other booty to be had in Port Royal is the salty sea songs and excellent poetry rival crews engage in.It's a good crew that can unleash verse at the flicker of a tongue and bring amusement to a few at the expense of none.

                        Breakfast for Two

I cooked the beans and added chillies too
plus a soupcon of grated cheese and rum,
and to prove my  passion undying for you
I put in one naga, too many, I'm dumb.
I warmed the beans yes, a little to well
there's no bacon or sausage salvation,
but mushrooms may offer a little libation
a button of moisture beside baked bean hell.
Perhaps one naga  would've been nice,
or two at most yes taken out in a trice,
even better I think a birds eye or Thai,
but the fire of these beans, my lips, oh my.
Yet you ate, and smiled with each fiery bite
aware a hot dish is inspired at night.

==========

Port Royal was the centre of commerce for the Greater Antilles island ring. The indigenous peoples were the Taino, their original name for the islands was Xaymaca, meaning the "Land of Wood and Water".

The Blue Angel review 6 December 09

    Sunday's Blue Angel poetry event (5 pm PST, 1 am GMT) lived up to its reputation of being one the most exciting venues to hear new poetry in second life. A  diverse range of international poets read original pieces. The challenge theme for the night was Habits, and to increase the difficulty,  two repeated  lines were to be used. Villanelles, fibonnaccis, free verse, and narrative poems all were fair game for the the participants.The usual format for this event, is each reader performs three poems plus the challenge poem.  We were not disappointed, though this article will cover only one poem per author (selected by this reporter as being Representative, and memorable, and utterly brilliant).
  The talented  poet and host of the event, Persephone Phoenix started the evening with My Lover's Eyes are Dark and Hard  followed by Huckleberry Hax  reading the beautiful new Xmas poem. Corwyn Allen was next, he stayed close to this weeks theme of aids day with an acrostic poem called Kill the Killer, great work. Ruby Miggins, a new and very welcome voice followed with A Window plus an interesting and imaginative narrative poem  (please read again, and soon) Chalice was up next and read an astounding piece called  Breakable.
   Ulrich Lionheart ( in his amazing French accent ) then read a seasonal poem , The First Snow before  Hypatia Pickens,(ahh Hypatia  *beams) read a formal fib to everyones delight (we love form) and a poem called Rapture. BlissDk wowed us with Driving away from LA read by Perse (only to happy to read if your mic is unavailable). Next up the the big Ragizzle, House Ragu whose unique talent for the spoken word has made him a hit all over sl reading The Girl I Lost To Cocaine.
  Stosh Quartz read next, again following the SLLU weeks theme of radical poetry with a Radical
Poetry Rant ( beautiful work) soon to be followed by the astounding Manx Wharburton ( on the weeks challenge of habits) reading Towards A Habit You Can Only Do Once.Skylar Smythe was next to read, her style unforgettable she read a personal favourite of mine , Encore.I read next ( Klannex Northmead ), this week I managed the challenge poem, named it singularity (my first pallindromic poem too) and to close the bill the last poet reading was Mariner  Trilling with a fantastic narrative called Third Grade.
  To round off the evening (or morning, three am here in 3 am GMT at the close ) we listened to the stream and let our hair down belly dancing on the bar (well, it is  a poets dive).
